As one of the kibitzing users (as opposed to genuine developers), I'm concerned about introducing this level of changes at the point when we're almost ready to roll a long line of beta/alpha/beta code into v2.0.

I feel a "released" version 2.0 is of more immediate value than any of the possible additional enhancements, in spite of how nice I think some of these things would be to have.
