 It looks like whoever wrote the part of hypermail that handles multipart/alternative choices decided that text/plain should always be the most prefered type, and that the "prefered_types" option should not be able to override that preference.
 Does anyone on this list know why it was done that way?  It looks suspicious to me, but I'm reluctant to mess with this area because I'm rather unfamiliar with it.

 Anyone who wants to change it should look at the preferedcontent routine near the start of parse.c.
