# should I install swish-e or webglimpse?

The answer may depend on your timeline. When do you need to have this in place ? Yesterday or in a month ? If in a month, I'd take a look at the pending release of Swish-E before making a decision.

# I've compiled swish-e, built an index, and sent a test query. Tell you the
# truth, I wasn't impressed. The docs are cryptic, and the software just
# seems, well, dinky.

So bulk is important ? :) (I'm sorry, I just could not resist. :))

# The WebGlimpse people seem to have more flair. The Arizona site is very good.
#
# I'm leaning towards WebGlimpse. Any input to the contrary?

I personally use Glimpse, not WebGlimpse. I rolled my own script for interfacing the search mechanism. I thought WebGlimpse a bit much but that was 8 months ago... I am just now looking seriously at Swish-E so I don't have an answer for you as to which may best suit your needs.

In the past when I've been presented with a situation like this I usually pick the easist one to get running so that something is there.

That gives me time to do a decent review of the other options. If I do find that something is better then I replace it with the newer version that has more capabilities. The users are happy initially because there is something to use and even happier when then get the newer, more advanced features. ;)

FWIW...
