I guess I thought it was some way my system was reconfigured when moving the /usr/local files to a separate hd & symbolically linking them from /disk2/usr/local/ to /usr/local.
The old-working-before-i-moved-it executable failed after moving, so i have a hard time seeing how a line of code could break.
Here's the /root/demo headers:

However, this crash happens from a variety of mailers. You, too, can get
an error by sending a test message to library_at_sln.fi.edu. You can see
the unchanged archive at
http://www.fi.edu/listarchives/projects/library/
Thanks,
